The millennial generation is one of the generations born in the early 1980s to 2000s or Gen-Y. Named the millennial generation because of the generation that lives at the turn of the millennium. Along with the entry of digital technology into all aspects of life. Digital technology has become a basic need in this generation. So, this generation is a generation that is already literate in digital technology, where every information is easily accessed via the internet. However, many people think that there has been a shift in eastern social values. This is because they are more open-minded and easily adopt the social values of the more modern western regions. It is true, this is also evident in our lives. Not a few teenagers who start to style like westerners, so that their social life is getting eroded.
Competencies Needed in the 4.0 Education Era
Teenagers are vulnerable to talking to each other directly they choose to use the internet as a way of communication. If this is done more intensively, gradually the real world in terms of interaction will fade. Industrial revolution 4.0 is marked by the presence of four things, namely supercomputers, artificial intelligence, cyber systems, and manufacturing collaboration. Therefore, competencies are needed that are able to balance the presence of these four things in the 4.0 Education era. The required competencies are one of the projections of 21st-century competency needs. The competencies needed in the 4.0 Education era are:
Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving Skills
This competency is very important for students to have in 21st-century learning. An educator in the millennial era must be able to mix learning so that they can explore these competencies from themselves.
Communication & Collaborative Skills
As a competency that is needed in the 21st century, this skill must be able to be constructed in learning. Information and communication technology-based learning models must be applied by teachers to construct communication and collaboration competencies.
Creative Thinking & Innovation Skills
Industrial revolution 4.0 requires students to always think and act creatively and innovatively. This action needs to be taken so that students are able to compete and create jobs based on industry 4.0. This situation is indeed needed considering that there have been many victims of the industrial revolution 4.0. For example, many professions have been replaced by digital robot machines. For example, payment of toll roads using e-toll. This system has forced toll road managers to lay off workers who have been used at every toll gate.
Contextual Learning Skill
So, this learning is a learning that is very suitable to be applied by teachers 4.0. If the teacher has mastered ICT literacy, contextual learning in the 4.0 education era is easier to do. The current condition of ICT is one of the contextual concepts that must be introduced by teachers. Giving a lesson that is much contextual based on ICT so that 4.0 teachers are very unprepared if they do not have ICT literacy.
Information and Media Literacy
Not a few currently social media information that is loved by students. Currently, social media seems to be a powerful communication medium used by students and teachers. With the existence of social media, it is one of the learning media that teachers can use 4.0. The presence of digital classes that are social media can be used by teachers so that learning takes place without the limits of space and time.
An educator must be ready to face the era of education 4.0 even though he is busy with a very dense curriculum and administrative burden. If not, then our young generation will continue to be left behind and the effect will be unable to compete with the implications of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
